These wineries produce award-winning wines made possible by a unique microclimate and well-drained granite soils. The 1500 foot elevation makes for cool summer nights, and delightful breezes come through the vineyards every afternoon throughout the summer.
In a region long known simply for Callaway chardonnay, today's Temecula winegrowers embrace refreshing viogniers, spicy sangioveses and rich ruby ports.
Spanish padres planted Temecula's first vines in the 1800s, employing the region's 1,500-foot elevation and well-drained granitic soils. More than 100 years later in the 1960s, vintners opened the first commercial wineries in a Southern California region ideal for growing grapes.
Today, Temecula Valley's charming wineries dot fields of green as breezes waft gently through the valley and over its hilltops. With its sunny days and cool, not-far-from-the-coast breezes, Temecula is a prime spot for a day of wine tasting. Its more than 20 wineries and vineyards range from quaint, boutique wineries to large-scale, internationally known operations.
